Uwagi

  • This herb is suitable for long-term use.
  • It can serve as a substitute for cortisone, prednisone and progesterone.
  • It builds muscle mass.
  • Being moistening and neither hot nor cold, it benefits both the Yin and the Yang of the Lungs and Kidneys.
  • Shan Yao, Fr. Jujube Da Zao, and Rz. Atractylodis Macrocephalae Bai Zhu all tonify Qi, but differently: Bai Zhu is drying and does not moisten; Shan Yao is neutral and tonifies Spleen Yin; and Da Zao tonifies both the Qi and Blood of the Spleen and Stomach.
  • Shan Yao and Sm. Nelumbinis Lian Zi are both sweet, neutral and astringent, entering and strengthening the Spleen and Kidneys while astringing the intestines and Lower Jiao; they are often combined for diarrhea from Spleen or Kidney Deficiency that has led to spermatorrhea, enuresis or vaginal discharge. Shan Yao also enters the Lung channel to tonify Lung Yin and stop cough from deficiency-consumption, functioning primarily as a tonic that augments the Qi and Yin of the Lungs, Spleen and Kidneys together. Lian Zi, by contrast, also nourishes the Heart and calms the Spirit, stops bleeding, and is often used to restore communication between Heart and Kidneys when its breakdown has caused palpitations, insomnia, spermatorrhea, deficiency irritability, wasting-and-thirsting disorder, or bleeding disorders such as hematuria or unremitting uterine bleeding.
  • Dry-fried Dioscoreae Chao Shan Yao more strongly augments the Spleen, harmonizes the Stomach and tonifies the Kidneys to astringe Jing, and is used to stop diarrhea, loose stools, vaginal discharge and spermatorrhea.
  • Earth-fried Dioscoreae Tu Chao Shan Yao is good for tonifying the Spleen and harmonizing the Stomach, and is used mainly for a weak Spleen with anorexia, fatigue and diarrhea, though it also suits vaginal discharge.
