Uwagi
- The plant overwinters, with new sprouts emerging from the old, dried stem.
- It is the principal herb for jaundice, whether from Cold-Dampness or Damp-Heat, earning it the name "the sacred herb for jaundice."
- It has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth.
- It is said to cure jaundice, dysuria, headache and mania from pathogenic Heat, as well as pestilence, dizziness, Wind-induced pain, miasma, extreme renal deficiency and abdominal masses.
- One source credits it with reducing Stasis, relieving pain, activating the diaphragm and expelling Phlegm.
- This herb and Rx. Bupleuri Chai Hu both act on the Liver/Gallbladder channels, draining Liver/Gallbladder Fire. This herb is the less drying of the two, making it valuable for Yin Deficient or Excess Fire patients unable to tolerate Chai Hu's dryness.
- Yin Chen and Hb. Lysimachiae Jin Qian Cao both cool Heat, eliminate Dampness, clear Liver Heat and benefit the Gallbladder, and are frequently combined for Damp-Heat in the Liver/Gallbladder. Yin Chen, bitter and cold, descends and drains, and is far more fragrant than Jin Qian Cao — qualities that let it better break up turbid Dampness, reduce jaundice and promote urination, acting more on the Liver than the Gallbladder. Jin Qian Cao, sweet, salty and slightly cold, softens hardness, expels stones and assists the Gallbladder.
- Yin Chen and Hb. Artemisiae Qing Hao are both aromatic herbs that resolve Damp-Heat, often combined for Damp-Heat jaundice, Warm-Damp disorders and Summerheat-warmth. Yin Chen acts on the Spleen and Stomach and is specific to jaundice, while Qing Hao acts mainly on the Liver/Gallbladder and is more capable of resolving steaming bones from consumption, being especially suited to draining pathogenic Fire in Summerheat-warmth and malarial disorders.
