  • Blood Stasis such as postpartum abdominal pain and amenorrhea
  • Pain and swelling due to Blood Stasis from fall, fractures, contusions or sprains

Excessive postpartum bleeding

  • Contraindicated during pregnancy.
  • Contraindicated with menorrhagia.
  • Contraindicated in the absence of Blood Stasis.
  • Contraindicated once lochia has cleared.
  • Contraindicated for abdominal pain due to Blood Deficiency.
  • Very large doses can cause coma and death.
  • Do not store in an iron container.

  • Moves the Blood and unblocks menstruation; also used for traumatic injury with painful, swollen bruising or hematoma, and for coronary heart disease.

  • It is derived from the heartwood of Caesalpinia Sappan.
  • According to some sources, it opens the channels and reduces inflammation.
  • Other sources credit it with expelling Wind and harmonizing the Blood.
  • Su Mu and Flos Carthami Hong Hua act similarly, though Hong Hua is slightly warm and harmonizing whereas Su Mu leans slightly cool.
