Uwagi

  • This herb acts on the Kidneys and the Blood.
  • Some sources credit it with opening the Orifices.
  • It forms when a saturated solution of Natrii Sulfas Mang Xiao is cooled below room temperature, precipitating out as crystals. The two share similar functions but cannot be substituted for one another: Han Shui Shi clears Heat from the Stomach only, whereas Mang Xiao clears Heat from the Stomach, Lung, and Large Intestine.
  • Han Shui Shi and Gypsum Fibrosum Shi Gao both clear Yang Ming/Qi-level Heat presenting with high fever, unquenchable thirst, and a large, forceful pulse, and are often combined. Hua Shui Shi is salty and acrid, entering the Kidneys to treat edema and to soften, mobilize, and disperse hardness, while Shi Gao enters the Lung channel to treat Heat-induced cough or wheezing and to release pathogenic Heat from the skin and muscle layers.
