Cibotii Gou Ji share the ability to tonify the Liver and Kidney and strengthen tendon and bone, treating lower-back and knee soreness and pain along with sinew and bone weakness from Liver-Kidney Deficiency. Gou Ji, sweet and warm, is more effective at tonifying bone and spine and expelling Wind-Dampness, whereas Gu Sui Bu, bitter and warm, more strongly invigorates the Blood and stops pain, and can also carry its action downward to treat tinnitus and toothache caused by floating Yang.
  • The sand-fried form, Sha Chao Gu Sui Bu, is more crumbly, less fibrous, and decocts more easily.
  • Gu Sui Bu and Rx. Dipsaci Xu Duan both tonify the Liver and Kidney to strengthen tendon and bone and invigorate the Blood for traumatic injury, and together they are combined to treat bone fractures; both also help prevent and treat osteoarthritis by raising bone mass density. Gu Sui Bu has the stronger Kidney-tonifying action, while Xu Duan additionally calms a restless fetus and stops bleeding.
