Uwagi

  • This is one of the few cold herbs with a strong diaphoretic action.
  • It is sometimes used alone.
  • It disperses Lung Qi.
  • It opens the pores to induce sweating.
  • Some sources state that it dispels Wind-Damp, clears Heat and removes toxins.
  • Its sweat-inducing power surpasses that of Hb. Ephedrae Ma Huang, and it drains water downward more effectively than Medulla Tetrapanacis Tong Cao.
  • It is reserved for cases of severe Excess with pronounced Heat.
  • It suits itching from Damp-Heat with absence of sweat, rather than absence of sweat from Wind-Cold.
  • Fu Ping and Hb. Ephedrae Ma Huang both open the pores and clear fluid passageways to induce sweat and promote urination, treating fever with absent sweating, urinary difficulty and edema. Fu Ping, acrid and cold, is best for exterior Wind-Heat with absence of sweating, and it also promotes urination in edema or Damp-Heat and expels Wind to clear rashes and relieve itching, though it does not ease cough or wheezing. Ma Huang, acrid and warm, instead suits exterior Wind-Cold patterns with absence of sweating and additionally controls wheezing and stops cough.
